In addition to a visit to the château's exhibitions, the children's group will take part in a workshop on natural dyes with a mediator.
Nature provides us with a multitude of colors. But what are the dye plants and other plants used to make dye? During this workshop, children become budding chemists and experiment with fabric dyeing processes.
The workshop is divided into 3 parts:
- The group discovers which plant materials can be used to dye fabrics. Older children also explore color perception, and the biological and cultural parameters that enable us to distinguish between colors.
- Through dyeing experiments on different fabrics, the children try to answer the following questions: is the color of the plant the same as the one extracted for dyeing? Is it possible to get several shades of dye from the same plant? How long does it take to dye a fabric?
- At the end of the workshop, the children leave with their dyed fabric samples.
Pedagogical objectives :
- Discover and understand how plants can be used to produce dyes.
- Experiment with chemical modifications Test dyeing on different fabrics
For cycles 3 and 4:
- Learn the difference between a dye and a pigment
- Understand how colors react with chemical modifications
